The Effect of Art and Craft Program on Elderly Emotions

Abstract
Objective : The purpose of this study is to find out how the program affects the elderly¡¯s emotional change by applying art and craft activity programs that are frequently used in the leisure life of the elderly, which are emerging due to the increase in the elderly population due to the aging society.

Methods : The subjects were 13 senior citizens aged 60 or older registered at the center in the G region, and were conducted twice a week for four weeks from May 21 to June 21, 2019. The program ran for two hours each time. To derive the results, frequency analysis, Mann-Whitney U test, Wilcoxon¡¯s signed-ranks test was performed using SPSS 24.0.

Results : Research and analysis shows that there are significant differences in euphoria, self-efficacy, and life satisfaction, when analyzing mood changes before and after art-craft activities, and there were no significant differences in stress and depression. All art-craft activities have made a significant difference in mood changes, and analysis by activity shows that the amount of mood changes is the highest in paper craft activities.

Conclusion : It can be explained that handcrafted activity programs affect the improvement of happiness, self-efficacy, and life satisfaction. Based on the results of this study, it is believed that the foundation has been laid to support the need for the development and dissemination of handcraft programs that can have a positive impact on old people¡¯s sentiments.
